Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the app show "Offline" when I have WiFi connected?
Online Now checks for actual internet connectivity, not just network connection. You may be connected to WiFi but behind a captive portal (like hotel WiFi that requires login) or the WiFi may not have internet access. Try opening a web browser to verify your connection.
How accurate is the speed test?
The speed test provides a general indication of your download speed. For the most accurate results, close other apps and ensure you're not actively downloading or streaming content. Results may vary based on server distance and current network conditions.
Does the app use a lot of battery?
No. Online Now uses Apple's efficient Network framework which is optimized for minimal battery consumption. The app only actively monitors when in the foreground and uses system callbacks rather than constant polling.
How do I delete my connection history?
Your connection history is stored locally on your device. You can clear it through the app's history view, or simply delete and reinstall the app to remove all data.
Why doesn't VPN detection always work?
VPN detection depends on how your VPN provider implements their connection. Most VPNs are detected through standard interface names, but some custom implementations may not be recognized. If you notice your VPN isn't being detected, please report it to us.
What does "Constrained" connection mean?
A constrained connection indicates that Low Data Mode is enabled on your device. This iOS setting reduces data usage by limiting background tasks. You can change this in Settings → Cellular or Settings → WiFi → [Your Network] → Low Data Mode.
What does "Expensive" connection mean?
An "expensive" connection typically means you're on cellular data or using a personal hotspot. This is iOS's way of indicating that data usage on this connection may incur charges or count against a data cap.
